getting smarter

We had a great Easter last weekend!  We spent it with some awesome friends!  There was ham, potatoes, brocolli salad, rolls....and even a chocolate chicken, yes you heard me right...a chocolate chicken!!!  The kids LOVED playing in Mary and Randy's huge backyard and had a blast finding eggs that we had hidden for them.  It was a great day!

Carson is getting smarter these days and it's so fun to watch!  He is learning to sound words out and read.  You can actually see him working on a word and then it suddenly "clicks" and he gets it. It's so cute how excited and proud he gets when he reads a word.  We like to use our alphabet magnets on our fridge to spell out some simple words for him.  After doing that for about a half hour today he sat down to actual write some words.  He's never tried to just write words on his own before.  He wrote something on the paper and then showed me and asked "does this say apple?".  He had written "APOL".  I know, you're thinking...that's not right Lynette...but, wasn't that a great try?  He's got the idea down.  Then I told him how to really spell it and so he changed his "O" to a "P" and added an E at the end.  Pretty smart kid!  Here's his paper, if you look closely you can see where it originally said APOL.  I'm excited for him to learn more and start kindergarten in the fall (I still can't believe that!).

Also, here is a sneak peak of some pictures my friend Jen took this week for our shop.  Aren't they awesome!  My models were perfect!

Okay, I totally want a new camera. aka Picture Overload

For the last several months I've been trying to decide if I want a "real" camera.  You know, not just a point and shoot camera, but an SLR (whatever that stands for).  I've never aspired to be a photographer, we already have an awesome one in the family (hi Dad!).  But, my kids are cute and I like to make stuff and I would like cute pictures.  I totally get jealous of other peoples pictures where their children's eyes are just sparkling and the kids look so real like I could pinch their cheeks through the picture.  Anywho, I've talked to my dad a lot about cameras and I've talked to good friends about it too, but I just couldn't decide if I really wanted one (enough to pay several hundred dollars, you know?).  So, where am I going with all this rambling?  It comes down to this.  My good friend Jen, who takes awesome photos, let me borrow her old camera to see what I thought.  I have NO idea how to use it and have left it on the automatic setting the whole time....and I LOVE IT!!!  The pictures are definitely better than anything I could take on my little camera.  And you can take picture after picture with no delay...i love that!  So, I'm hooked.  I love it.  I want one.  Just look at these cute pictures I took with Jen's camera.  And remember...I have NO idea what I'm doing, nor was I really even trying to take a cute picture.  Just think what they could look like if I actually KNEW something.  So, Dan, if you're reading this.  I want a camera.  Mother's Day is coming soon :)

Shredder

Nope, I'm not talking about the bad guy in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I'm talking about my sweet little 2 year old daughter!  For the first year or so of her life, we affectionately (or maybe not) called her "The Shredder".  We might have said it so much that even Carson started calling her that.  Why?  Because our sweet little baby could destroy ANYTHING!  She would rip things to shreds in a matter of seconds.  And if you wanted her to give something back that she had in her little shredding hands, she would give  you this little look and then go kamakazi on it.  Seriously, I'm pretty sure that if we gave her a phone book, that girl could rip the thing in half!  So, she is the shredder.  Lucky for us, she gradually got over her obsession with shredding things a while ago.  We slowly began to trust her with books again and even so much that we would slide them in between the crib and bumper at night so she would have something to read in the morning...which she loved!  Well, she has once again lost that privilege and re-earned the name of Shredder.  Look what she did:
And yes, that is a LIBRARY book!!!  So, there goes $17 to pay for that book.  And this is not the first time...we're going to start taking money out of her college fund to pay for her book shredding.  Well, there won't be anymore shredding for a while b/c no more books in bed for our sweet angel!

The End.

My Verdict

So, in the case of the bobby pins, it looks like the majority says that the bumpy side goes up.  WHO KNEW!  All these years I've been wearing them wrong...what else am I doing wrong that I don't know about.  I even made some cute little flower bobby pins and did those "upside down" too.  I guess I'm not fooling anybody that I'm girly, there's no hiding the fact that I'm really not anymore!  Happy Bobby Pin wearing!

Oh, and if you want the chance to win a free headband, go check out my crafty blog HERE.

Who Knew!

How do you wear your bobby pins?  Do you have the straight side up or the bumpy side up?  I ALWAYS thought that you were suppose to wear them with the straight side up...and that's how I wore them forever!  Don't you want the pretty straight side to show?  But, I recently learned that apparently you are suppose to wear them with the bumpy side up.  That just seems so weird to me...is that really true?  How do you wear your bobby pins,
inquiring minds want to know!
