What to do?

My sweet little boy LOVES scary things!!!  He absolutely LOVES halloween and almost all things scary!  But, with this love/obsession comes a certain fear that only emerges at night.  He is totally afraid of the dark!  It's been quite a while that he's been afraid of the dark and we feel like we have tried every trick in the book/pep talk to help him overcome this fear.  But, nothing seems to work!  A lot of the time we're just annoyed that he can't get over it, but other times I just feel so bad for the kid.  He is so sweet and it really, really scares him!  He is so imaginative and comes up with crazy ideas and scary monsters that he insists could be real.  So, do any of you out there have any suggestions to help him out?  I'd be happy to try anything at this point!!!

Sorry! I have no ideas yet, although I'm sure that we'll have to deal with something similar at some point. Just a couple of nights ago, the hubby and I were talking about our childhood fears of the "things" in the dark. It was creeping me out just thinking about it! And how old am I?!?

When Kasen was scared of the dark we told him to sing primary songs and that seemed to work. Maybe you could try playing primary songs quietly on a cd player in his room?

don't leave the light on, or remove it from the room. tell him to "man up" and sleep in the dark!

ok, if that's not going to happen, remove the light, but give him a CHEAP and barely functional hand powered flashlight. he cranks it, it turns on. he stops, it turns off. hopefully he'll hate cranking it, or at least get tired and give up.
